About Home Building Foundation
Your attendance at the 2025 Building Hope Gala and Auction will help provide safe, dignified shelter to people who need it.
As the nonprofit arm of the Home Building Association of Greater Portland, we work closely with members of the residential building industry, who volunteer their time and provide us with discounts or free materials to complete shelter projects. We have helped more than 60 organizations, and have worked at more than 90 locations throughout our region. Our building projects have ranged from building entire housing facilities, to remodeling and repairs.
We are fortunate to receive volunteer labor from HBA members, as well as discounts and donations of building materials. In addition, our projects provide hands-on learning opportunities for construction students. We bring pre-apprenticeship trainees on- site to our projects, where they learn techniques they will use in their careers. Through our Education Partnership Program, we offer local high schools supplies to build projects our shelter partners need. Currently, all Portland Safe Rest Villages have picnic tables built through the Partnership Program, while other shelters have received storage sheds, benches, serving carts, and other useful items.
Proceeds from the Building Hope Gala and Auction help us keep our programs running. Your donations also help us save nonprofits between 30-70% of their typical building costs. Because of people like you, Home Building Foundation can help hundreds of people sleep comfortably, and safely each night.
