So, what does HBF actually do?
Home Building Foundation is the nonprofit foundation of the Home Building Association (HBA) of Greater Portland. We bring together builders and suppliers who donate their time, skills, and materials to build and renovate shelter facilities for nonprofits across the Metro area — following a model developed by HomeAid. Nearly 100 locations and thousands of people now have a safe place to sleep because of industry generosity.
Our WERC ( Workforce Expansion in Residential Construction) programs help train skilled workers to tackle Portland's housing shortage. Our Building to Scale program focuses on modular housing using sustainable mass timber. And through our Education Partnership Program, local students get hands-on construction experience while building things shelters actually need. Our newest initiative, Roll Call AI (created with Pacific Crest Custom Cabinetry), connects schools with surplus materials from the residential industry.
